The Shelby County WRE is a 370 acre easement that consisted of fallow cropland. Restoration efforts were to contain and capture rainfall runoff by the creation of shallow water areas by construction of a low hazard dike and creation of micro-topography areas. A water control structure was installed to provide control options to obtain the desired water elevation, with vegetated and rock spillways implemented to relieve high-water during flood stages.
