Mattamuskeet Wetland Restoration

Through this project, the hydrology of this prior-converted agricultural land was restored through the use of low-level berms, shallow excavations, and water control structures. It features a slough that transverses the site surrounded by emergent wetlands. The restored wetlands are managed to enhance migratory bird habitat and wetland diversity, as well as treat nutrient and sediments flow from Lake Mattamuskeet. The buffer area around the wetland will be managed as early-successional and pollinator habitat to maximize plant and animal diversity.
